Felix Gonzalez-Torres, “Untitled” (Fortune Cookie Corner), 1990
May 25 – July 5, 2020
CCA Tel Aviv is pleased to be part of the exhibition Felix Gonzalez-Torres, “Untitled” (Fortune Cookie Corner), 1990. Presented in conjunction with the launch of the Felix Gonzalez-Torres Foundation’s new website, 1000 individuals all over the world were invited to become “an active part of the total ‘site’ of an expansive physical exhibition” – to be a “place” in the official installation of Felix Gonzalez-Torres’s “Untitled” (Fortune Cookie Corner), 1990. This seminal work by Felix Gonzalez-Torres (*1957, Guáimaro, Cuba; ✝1996, Miami) could be displayed in any site chosen by the “place” (invitee) and originally it consisted of approximately 10,000 fortune cookies, presented in a pile. “Untitled” (Fortune Cookie Corner), 1990, is part of a wider ensemble of works featuring eatable items – such as candies or fortune cookies – which revolutionized the field of contemporary art and the fruition of artworks. Through his practice, Gonzalez-Torres emphasized a physical, intimate, and experiential encounter with his work, preceding and inspiring what Nicolas Bourriaud defined as “Relational Aesthetics.”
Felix Gonzalez-Torres, “Untitled” (Fortune Cookie Corner), 1990 is curated by Andrea Rosen, President of the Felix Gonzalez-Torres Foundation; the “place” of this presentation is Nicola Trezzi, Director and Curator, CCA Tel Aviv.
