As part of “Keren Cytter: Sponsored Content,” CCA Tel Aviv has invited guests to provide commentary on the artist’s videos. Borrowing the format of the so-called “Cineforum” – a debate or discussion accompanying the release of a film – curator Talia Heiman will give insights about the third part of Vengeance (2013), originally presented at Pilar Corrias Gallery in London. The event will begin with a short talk about the history and structure of American soap operas, and continue with a screening and discussion about the work. Vengeance is a seven-part video work that was created immediately after Keren Cytter’s relocation to New York. In the video, Cytter adopted the format of the American television platform of the soap opera to process classic themes of drama in personal relationships: love, envy, betrayal, and vengeance. The video was filmed in 15 locations around Staten Island and New Jersey and features over 50 actors.
About the speaker: Talia Heiman is a writer and curator based in Los Angeles. She received her M.A. from the Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College in 2018. She has organized exhibitions, screenings, and performances at AA|LA Gallery (Los Angeles), The Kitchen (New York), the Hessel Museum of Art (Annandale-On-Hudson, NY), Counterpublic (Kingston, NY), and the Center for Contemporary Art Tel Aviv, among others. Her writing has been published by Art21 and BOMB Magazine. In 2014, she received a research grant from New York University for her work on the artist Christopher D’Arcangelo.
