"You Better Dance for Your Rights"

"My name is Katrina Daschner, I am an artist, a feminist and a lesbian. ... I started to combine more of my photographic works with narrative plots and dance. They have increasingly changed into theatrical scenes... The music I dance to and my way of dancing combine traditional and modern oriental music and dance with electronic or disco/pop-music and dance. Similarly, the costumes are not only those of belly dance, but also a mixture of costumes and accessories from different cultures. I tell stories of individual worlds with 'in-between-identities,' relating to gender and culture and social structures. I use feministic strategies in a way that refrain from showing stereotypic gender roles." (KD)
