In “Plecos,” a new solo exhibition of Gilad Ratman (*1975, Haifa; lives and works in Tel Aviv-Yafo) at CCA Tel Aviv-Yafo that spreads across both floors of the Center, the artist presents an ambitious installation encompassing video, sound, programmed doors and wet clay. The protagonists of Ratman’s project are Pleco fish, also known as cleaner fish because of their ability to seemingly clean the aquarium surfaces.
Protest sign | לא by Santiago Sierra
To mark these turbulent times of social unrest in Israel and in solidarity with the ongoing wave of protests, CCA Tel Aviv-Yafo has partnered with artist Santiago Sierra (*1966, Madrid, where he lives and works) to create a new version in Hebrew of his widely-known work NO in the format of a protest sign.

In 4th 6th (2024), musicians Ariel Alteratz and Ron Sheskin explore the concept of stillness in performance. In this work this concept is primarily embodied by the fact that Alteratz and Sheskin remain almost motionless throughout. This radical approach to music-making reveals subtle and unexpected nuances that emerge through prolonged oscillation of metal strings. Gradually, an intricate soundscape unfolds – a gentle balance between calm and intensity. By stretching an interval to the limits, Alteratz and Sheskin encourage the audience to focus on the spaces above, beneath, and between the notes, creating a tapestry of sound that is both colorful and deeply immersive.

On this occasion Ratman will reflect back on his work process for the exhibition, which included, among other things, raising fish in a custom-made aquarium and experimenting with sound on antique devices. He will also discuss the ideas that guided his project and draw connections to earlier works.
Performance | out-of-office: Uri Duvdevani

After presenting the first version of Pompeii at CCA Tel Aviv-Yafo in December 2023, multidisciplinary artist and performer Uri Duvdevani is back to the Center to present a new version of the same piece. Pompeii is an audio-visual journey that weaves together movement, text, and music. It delves into historical events and mythical stories, centering on the Roman city of Pompeii, which was destroyed in 79 AD by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. This catastrophic event buried the city and froze it in time, turning its narrative into one of suspended history. In the performance, the eruption becomes a starting point for broader reflections on dichotomies such as abundance versus destruction, fate versus choice, and movement versus stillness.
The practice of Radu Comșa (*1975, Sibiu, Romania; lives and works in Cluj-Napoca, Romania) employs ever-expansive parameters of painting. His works feature diverse materials such as concrete, paper, fabric, wood, plastic, and metal which are based on the conclusion that painting – namely, compositions of colored shapes – is all around us. This is the case when we set up a table for dinner; we choose curtains and carpets for our homes; when we hang our laundry; and when we see how the buildings are painted on our city’s street lines. Another element deeply embedded in his practice is playfulness, which is also the guiding principle of his project for CCA Tel Aviv-Yafo.
